idle hands first release of 2018 comes from dan habarnam, a producer who made his name with releases skirting round the edges of dnb on exit and cylon. in the last few years he has turned his hand to techno with two 12inches on hs own selectie label that found favour with ben ufo amongst others. here are on idle049 we present two tracks of his latest work, hard hitting broken techno with maximum dancefloor potential.

it’s been a long time coming digging through the archives, legendary uk acid don luke vibert drops an exquisite solo record on the belgian de:tuned label. on phlacid and arcadia luke shows off his ability to produce funky yet quirky acid tracks that will put a smile on your face. both balath and worry ledge are intense uptempo electro workouts with enough 303 squelch to melt your brain, proper warehouse vibes! the artwork for this release was designed by the wonderful gents at the designers republic. mastered by matt colton at alchemy and pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

after a track, a tape and an ep released on acid waxa, opal tapes and dream ticket, respectively, binary digit logically sees his first lp, 38000 summer hits, released on stochastic releases.
this new album comprises 6 tracks of edm: emotional dance music. they were made and recorded during the hot summers of 2016 and 2017. everything you need then is freshness and coolness and this is exactly what they are giving. they combine the overall positivity of the summer and the melancholy caused by the insistence of the heat, of the light, of the endless nights. they were played directly from the machine to a 1/4’’ tape, which explains their very natural and direct development. 303-like bass, gnarly hi-hats, heavy kicks and digital licks are still to be expected here.

vidab x returns with a new artist, faltin, who chooses to remain anonymous, plus a stepping rework by gowentgone aka label owners oliver deutschmann and stephan hill. faltin s phobos is a stripped down analogue masterclass. rolling and snaking, its arpeggiated lead growls with a hot headed tension, climbing while never losing balance and poise. the gowentgone stepper translates the original into a heavyweight, early-morning trip - a certain hybrid of broken beats and techno attitude that melts between genres. waves of euphoria are carried by rumbling drums in this essential version.

violet and bleid met last year in lisbon, at the radio quântica studios. in the very same day, they impromptu started working together on a track: a cover of underground sound of lisbon’s so get up to celebrate international womens day. together, alongside a crew of young lisbon djs and activists, they also run the queer techno party mina, one of the most vital things going on in the city’s nightlife - the picture in the artwork was taken in the backstage of one of those infamous, dark-room-equipped parties.
bleid remixed naive001’s togetherness by violet, and that dope rework made it to rroxymore’s bag (as heard at berghain) and was played on bbc radio 6, rinse fm and +++. the pair became friends, started bouncing ideas about production techniques, rap skills and the importance (or lack thereof) of the classics in dance music. making more music together happened naturally.
naive002 feels like a continuation of naive’s first release in some ways: the jungle-inspired chopped breaks, sonic synth work and oneiric pads are still there but gain a heavier, perhaps more somber tone at times, exploding into depth or ecstasy at others.

zoe mc phersons exploration of this world on string figures is a deeply rhythmic, immersive and forward-thinking piece of elec-tronic-leaning music that remains just as danceable as it does experimental. the album is fundamentally one of duality, exploring the traditional and the contem-porary, organic and electronic, audio and visual, history and the future. rooted in this duality is also a core theme around string being one of the most ancient and playful art forms and the seemingly infinite possibilities it offers in terms of shapes, structures and figures lines up with this as a trans-global art project. one that over time will involve video art, choreography, 3d motion design, macro film, instrumental and electronic sound. although for now is being presented through an av performance, films and a record with mc pherson collaborating with director alessandra leone over the seven tracks (which are laid out as chapters) the record explores glitchy elec-tronics, dub-tinged grooves, polyrhythms, and a huge array of instruments that takes in quiet blasts of atonal sax alongside wonky synths.

lagaffe tales co-founder jónbjörn drops four tracks on icelands falk records beat driven sub-label, falk disks. since 2008 falk (fuck art lets kill) has become a creative hub for icelandic and international artists involved in experimental and electronic music, spanning noise rock through to power electronics, underground hip-hop to diy techno and electro. 2017 saw falk continue with releases from icelandic hip-hop producer lord pusswhip, techno/electro producer thizone and canadian industrial techno musician /&#991,,,/huren/&#991,,,/. berlin based icelandic producer jónbjörn, known for curating reykjavík record label lagaffe tales – one of the main pillars in the icelandic house scene – now joins falks’ club focused sub-imprint with a robust four tracker. moving away from the deep house sound hes renowned for towards a darker and leaner night time aesthetic, amsiak inaugurates the release with an infectious electro groove as gurgling pings and acidic clangs and drones are liberally dropped throughout the track. aspekte is a spacious track with blown-out bass sounds that morph and glide across a tempered, slow burning planar rhythm. on the flip, jonbjörn goes for a harder techno sound influenced by his relocation to berlin. sunnudagskaffi is a bendy, 4/4 roller that contains hidden grooves below the basslines and the acid pings that wouldnt be out of place on a livity sound release. meanwhile, holy b is pure warehouse creeper techno, complete with machinic tones and the atmospherics of sweat and grime on dungeon brick walls.

creta is a new trio of artists coming from very different backgrounds: roberto zanisi is a finger picking guitar player and a virtuoso on strings of all kinds, including “exotic” instruments like the turkish cümbüs, the greek bouzouki or the albanian cifteli. since 2003 he has been active in many contexts: he worked with giovanni venosta producing sound tracks for silvio soldini’s movies, took part as soloist musician in steward copeland s tour “la notte della taranta (night of tarantula)”, played with the american musician amy denio and performed with sainkho namtchylak. luciano lamanna’s main characteristics are experimentation, analog synths, vinyl and a big love for techno. in 2015, the resident dj at ex dogana, roma and member of the italian artist collective lswhr launched the modular synthesizer project balance (with davide ricci), and in 2017 he released the album “divus” with zu member luca t. mai, to name a few of lamanna’s many releases on labels like earache, boring machines, scuderia et.al. and, last but not least, there is massimo pupillo, highly acclaimed bass maniac with zu, laniakea and in countless other constellations (a.o. peter and caspar brÖtzmann, fm einheit, chris corsano). as creta, they create outlandish sonic pieces that blend sci-fi ambient atmospheres with dark bass pulses and bucolic-mediterranean string instruments – an unique and yet coherent mix of elements that adds consequently to the oeuvres of the three artists!

tengrams are brothers alessandro and davide, who collectively have a deep and long understanding of dance music. davide is a co-founder of n.o.i.a, one of italy s first electronic live acts to perform and record with drum machines and synthesizers as early as 1978. he was also behind seminal italo outfit klein + m.b.o and proto house hit dirty talk. since then they have released under an array of aliases, have clocked up numerous club hits and this new project brings them back to their electronic roots, with influences like sci-fi movies and old school electro and italo looming large. -devious- is a very breezy and energetic track with a rolling arpeggio and rich keyboards section over a simply but groovy tr-808 pattern. classical italo space disco sound updated to nowadays. -translucent- sounds like a dreamy electro-ballad heavily influenced by kraftwerk. -pop song- keeps the same 80 s electro vibes with simple, wistful melodies and a great funk bass line. -disco dub- is a pretty damn cool early eighties electronica, with a great pumping -robo-funk- linndrum!

lillygood party! is a label focused on licencing tracks that alex and stephane play for years at their parties. the aim is to re-edit and revisit those jams from soul to house , jazz to afro, boogie to techno and make us and people enjoy and smile on the dancefloor because those tunes are really really good both tracks here are classics dancefloors tunes, nothing rare, just favourite tunes that alex and stéphane play in their sets. on the a side the onwards international version is longer than the original and the arrangement quiet different for more intense dancefloor action. here they both worked on the edit to find the right balance and the right sound in order to revisit the uk classic jazz funk number, a firm favourite here lillygood! the b side is an amazing disco modern soul gospel track from elbernita twinkie clark already reissued some time ago but the cherry on the cake is that you have here a 12inch version extended and a new mastering for extra loud play this version is slightly different than the original, alex extended parts: the beginning with drum intro looped for mixing and changed the end to make it longer keeping the original flavour. please enjoy as much as we do because we love those edits, we love those tunes, we love music we are very happy to share with you these limited vinyls releases

known for a series of stunning releases for the likes of one records, earlydub and laate, yamen & eda are a france-based duo whose music regularly perks the ears of some of the scene s most respected names. their latest release arrives courtesy of their own recently launched label, maison mere - and is the sort of intriguing release that s sure to cement their reputation for polished grooves amongst discerning heads.

imogen have stumbled across a rare gem here, presenting some previously unheard liquid funk jams from the lesser known chicago pioneer james perri. some of his jams as jimi polo are perennial classics, while his time spent in soul ii soul and elsewhere are testament to his gifts, but this particular set of recordings from the 90s have lain in wait for their time to shine. you can hear his skills as a session musician and arranger coming through in abundance on this warm, grooving, acid jazz inflected ep. 70s theme is a sparse, moody jazz funk cut, while brother beware is a smooth, sultry slice of message soul. express yourself is the truly uplifting slice of the pie, and it will chime just fine with any lovers of that classic soul ii soul sound.

taking the reins for shdw004 is jeigo. having interned at phonica, rye wax and now worldwide fm, jeigo’s wide palette and deep crates are evident on this classy four track e.p which features a tasty remix from big miz on the flip.

new addition to shir khan s disco series: welcome t.u.r.f. t.u.r.f. are two dutch friends, dj s and producers joined by their love of old records from a wide range of genres. last year they released their debut ep on apparel music, which got support from artists like roy davis jr, soul of hex, frits wentink, black loops and many others. after such an amazing start, they are very excited to take their music into new directions with this new ep for black jukebox, consisting of three diverse tracks that will bring the feel good vibes back to the club.

those wizards of digging psychemagik doing the business once again. hot on the heels of last year s monstrous gotta hold on me / wildman they re letting folks know that they were still out there searching in the darkest recesses of the last 40+ years of popular and unpopular music, and boy oh boy are they good at it! the trip lives up to it s name. the track kicks off with some ultra beefed up psychedelic shenanigans, swirling, cacophonous sounds whirl and sweep and gradually drag us into the holographic tunnel, gradually giving way to some heavyweight drums and percussions and unfurling into a muscular psych-discoid beast. this one will send the kids crazy and will undoubtedly cause some damage in the club, both sonically and mentally. but what is the original? we hear you say... answers on a postcard please. sisters of the moon on the flip-side is a very different animal - all laid back, laconic steel-guitars and thundering slo-mo drums and percussion. the dark side of a rural witchcraft dream exposed here, almost menacing... and then? those vocals spring out of the mix amidst the throbbing sexually charged atmosphere and drag us back into the realm of near reality with sultry moans and groans. this one s woozy alright, but in the best possible way. so wrong, it s right and possibly the natural soundtrack to too many of those strange shots that that guy in the weird hat gave us earlier when we entered that country pub. what guy? i hear you ask.... ultimate freak-disco and deepest druid funk for the discerning and psychedelically inclined record consumer.

the levels of deep that trinidadian deep can reach with his sound are almost unfathomable, and he s at it once again for deepartsounds. as if he needed any help getting down low, sarignia bonfa lends her steamy vocals to i need you- and the trademark trini sound gets into a whole new realm of sensuality. fusion pulls things out of the boudoir and into the sunlight, bringing some of that infectious, uplifting soul to the table that he made his name on. future funk places some synths at the front of the mix and sharpens the edges of the drumming, giving the brain one last blast before allstarr motomusic steps up for a remix of i need you that goes down very smooth indeed.

ltd 2018 repress - gay marvine (pronounced gay marveen) is back once again proving his limits are far beyond most, this time exposing the deeper hedonistic elements hidden deep within pop music. what emerges through his filter of reshaping and repurposing and incredibly fine ear for pacing is 4 perfectly distilled late night jams, a magick far beyond anything aleister crowley could conjure. this is the 10th volume of the secret mixes fixes series, in our never ending quest to show unique sides to late night classics, forgotten gems and things so obvious you may already be sick of them, but you arent when you hear gay marvines take on it. we are further expanding this concept in the future with some even cheekier choices for the next fix records and a brand new sub-label to represent gay marvines burning disco side, bathhouse etiquette. the bathhouse etiquette eps will showcase the many facets of gay disco as seen through gay marvines eyes. you have been warned.

edmondson first came to my attention with his lobster theramin distributed release, flamingo tripper, on his own label lissoms. or so i thought. turns out he was actually a guy who used to serve me in one of my favourite pubs in newcastle. back in those days he was a dub step / drum and bass kid, and as per the trend with all of those guys, hes now showing the house heads how its done, with a much keener feel for sound design, groove and a better ear for a sample than 90% of us lazy people who cut our teeth on a 4/4 beat. edmondson (or sean as i did know him and how i know him once again) is really one of the most exciting producers out there right now for me, and i couldnt be happier that weve reconnected and hes kindly allowed me me me to present some of his amazing music. we have love is an instant classic, and psg is a work of pure emotive art. to remix we have love, ive enlisted dauwd (fresh from his amazing album on technicolour). sean suggested him, and i jumped on the suggestion as he was one of the first people i met when i moved to berlin 4 years ago, and ive been trying to figure out a way of working with him since. he takes a we have love down a kind of more delicate and steppy route. its very pretty, but also really makes you want to dance. to remix psg i asked asok. again, i thought i first met asok about 7 or 8 years ago, when he came and played for a party i used to throw in newcastle. after becoming good friends over the years, we got chatting and it turned out that we were both in magaluf in 1998, and may have actually been involved in the same street brawl. thats not something either of us are proud of, but its definitely food for thought. i’m biased, but i think his remix is my favourite thing he’s ever done, and i love everything he’s touched musically to date, so thats probably an even bigger endorsement than it first seems. his version is big.

the second modugroove installment from the 100hz studio is a mixture of live improvised session recordings and arranged music taken also from live studio recordings. 2 tracks are collaboration projects with good friends of mine who happen to be great artists. we have 1 from richard rogers aka black booby and myself and 1 from julian giles and me aka junction chaos. this 4 track ep spans several styles of music from deep techno to graceful and emotive string dance. the focus of the ep and the label is the unusual, trying to not use usual drum patterns and 4 beat structures

after a first ep of the year from stl, the solar phenomena label now welcomes romania’s romansoff. the raw tools label boss hails from bucharest and has also released his gritty, stripped back house and techno on creme organization and sportiv. here he offers four new tracks, with one remix from timedance man ploy completing the package.
halo epitomises romansoff’s style with its slow, heavy drums and sparse, scattered perc sounds. a lo-fi melody adds colour, while coach jacket ups the ante with busier claps and crashing hits laid over a turbulent, unsettled bassline. increasing the pressure further, graded grows manic with punchy drums, layers of fuzzy synths and bass and distant cries that are dark and unsettling. ploy flips this one into a prickly and atmospheric drum track that keeps you on edge.

gulf points expanding roster delivers a twist with the introduction of vienna-based alexey lanvin. men s fashion connoisseur by day, one look diarises alexey s private persona as he broods over the octaves with acutely romantic flair. his series of short online videos hint at a realm where long stares, midnight moods and south beach style are everyday fare a vision fellow pastel chief and label boss benny badge simply couldn t ignore. one look- opens this window to lanvin s electrifying world even further, his talking keyboards ready as ever to converse. alexey gets straight to the point, launching into two searing ballads full of silky rhodes and evocative textures. while an ominous inner-city funk adorns all songs, its definitely miami when the upbeat items arrive (both good love and lips could score one of crockett s fleeting love scenes in easy fashion) - suggesting his high street antics are merely a front for his downtown demeanour. ep includes: standing out, in and out of love, your eyes, good love, lips, cassette only bonus track. arranged and recorded entirely at alexey s home studio with minor alterations by benny badge at secret heat music.

milan, italy, 1983. in the midst of the 80s economic boom, which gave an injection of optimism after the heavily political 70s, a group of young local musicians meet every night in a basement to rehearse and record a peculiar breed of italian disco music. originated from the ashes of various other projects, and rooted in the broader jazz-funk tradition, the group creates music which is equally inspired by contemporary fusion as well as by the first wave of the italo-disco sound. over approximately 3 years the band has recorded and played live, until the dismantling of the project towards the mid 80 s. fast forward 35 years and the genuinely mediterranean flavor of qvark s demo recordings are still enjoyable, both for the actual resurgence of the italian disco tradition and for the groovy quirkiness of a project which has been too long forgotten. after an intense work of audio restoration of such tapes, heavily affected by time, early sounds is pleased to present a compilation which is an important find to define the sound of late 70 s and early 80 s italian club sound.-

two of dance musics hottest producers coalesce on the latest hot creations release. frank storm and matteo spedicati bring us gimme tha honey, a throbbing three-track ep that gifts us with a rework from robsoul label boss phil weeks. frank storm reveals -this is our first collaboration which was born a year ago in our studio in barcelona. we share the same passion for our own definition of the ghetto sound, blending fresh and techy vibes.” with this inspiration they weave an almost menacing vocal into the pulsating bassline of lead track gimme tha honey. the phil weeks remix brings a slither of light with a shower of synths and warm, bubbling bass. the ep closes with the long wait shaking the record into heavier terrain, as the industrial keys are underpinned by a flurry of tough drums. frank storm has been a key player on the white isle having played at some of the island’s biggest clubs, space, sankey’s, pacha, ministry of sound and zoo project, as well holding down a residency at the night unusual suspects. matteo spedicati began releasing music in 2006 and has received support from ricardo villalobos and richie hawtin. since then he’s gone on to work with such high profile names as joseph capriati and mendo, as well as releasing records on an abundance of top labels.

late last year, we modestly celebrated the sixth anniversary of lph records by releasing a 10-inch that reconnected us with our very first ep by bringing back two of the artists who contributed to it, runaway and soft rocks. now, as a sort of companion to that, we have lph___vi , a 7-inch that gives shine to a couple other names that have been spotted on lph party flyers of old and back catalog credits, jacques renault and daniel t. both these are fun, flavorful little disco nugs united by funky bass guitar fretwork and plenty of sassy woodblock, though jacques leans towards the goofy and daffy, whereas daniels brings some synth-pop seriousness into the frame. as befits the format, both hover around four minutes in length.

for our second ep, we are shifting from manila, philippines, to our other home city, bangkok, the thai kingdom’s capital. hailing from here is dott, one of three founders of more rice, a truly home grown bangkok electronic producer, dj and the talent behind mah noi ep. dott already has a number of releases under his belt and is now a regular on the asian circuit, playing gigs around the region. at 26 years old this is quite impres- sive and we are very proud to be releasing his first pressed record under more rice.
mah noi ep embodies dott’s sound, which is deep, driven and moody, whilst keeping an organic twist throughout and clearly inspired by his home country, the key to setting the release apart and making it tasty for more rice. the careful and precise placement of vintage thai samples gives it that extra flavour and mystery that can engulf the listeners and dancers, whilst the remix by eric volta truly transports you to another dimension.

sprechen sie rhythm? its time for a new dance. welcome to the wonderful weird of talking drums an unsafe space for poorly executed dance moves, misjudged vibes and narcotic bravery. semi-cosmic, way wonky and oozing grooves, this is music for the fringe class. the party starts with a tripped out tribute to an italian inspiration. c60 lato a sees the crew pluck a couple of killers off a well worn cosmic tape, leave them out in the sun a little too long then stick them back together with an experimental blend of uhu and fufu. springy bass, spangled brass and mangled electronics make for a motherlode of funk, fried just long enough to make the walls melt. bendy.... over on the b-side the crew come through with a little bath-salt boogie, pitched down and loved up for all the slow dancers and romancers out there. strutting like a stoned fox, get serious wraps rubber-limbed bass around propulsive percussion, gets hooky with the horns then slaps you silly with its x-rated synth-smut. pinched from the pound bin and taped over a ch 5 classic, this disco drooler will loosen up even the stickiest floors. freshly dressed and pressed to impress, the drums are talking

for “a real labour of love” the band have again chosen a mix of well-known and less well-known reggae songs to cover in true ub40 style. tracks featured barrington levy’s “here i come”, ken boothe’s “moving away”, gregory isaac’s “hush darling”, culture’s “international herb” and beres hammond’s “she loves me”. cover art includes a bespoke painting by the respected american painter mark t smith. he has incorporated elements from the tracks to create art unique to the band.
the coloured double vinyl (1x orange, 1x purple) is housed in a gatefold sleeve with download code included.

beginning in the early 90s, emmanuel top became france s first techno superstar, even if his popularity was greater in countries like germany and england than his own. he released a multitude of 12inches on the attack label la pipe a eau, krankenhaus, ecsta-deal, stress, turkish bazar, and many more many of which are compiled on the triple-disc release collection from 1995. top s next step took him to nova mute alongside heavyweights like plastikman. in addition to his solo work, top also collaborated with bruno sanchioni and bruno quartier in the mid to late 90s as the trance act b.b.e. (seven days and one week) and also as age of love (the original age of love).

sis, the alias of burak sar, returns once again to crosstown rebels. following on from releases such 2012s round pen, 2015s sombra india and last years the blindside, the german-born producer heavily influenced by his turkish roots- presents us with this tribal triple-threat. sis explains that it was sending his first ever demo tape to crosstown rebels in 2004 that initiated his relationship with the label and tells us to expect some rolling dance floor breakers. karmir nur gets the ep underway. sensual strings abound with a heady, tribal chant that lulls you into a state of hypnosis. tima rolls along, building slowly as the layers pull you in deeper still towards those familiar strings. dandini brings back the tribal chanting. the vocals are backed by mesmeric drums, perfect for an intoxicating, dance floor procession. burak sar has released a number of records on renowned imprints such as get physical music, mobilee and cocoon recordings as well as running his own successful label, cocolino records.

dark entries is proud to release the debut album from bézier titled ‘parler musique’. bézier is taiwanese-american musician robert yang who is also part of the honey soundsystem crew. a multi-instrumentalist, robert grew up in southern california then planted his roots in san francisco in 2005. over the years in sf he has built an impressive analog synth-based studio, which also serves as the creative hub for his riveting live performances. parler musique clocks in at over 52 minutes with 8 tracks are spread across four sides for maximum loudness.
